  La Musique
Some of my favourite musicians of all time seem to sing and perform in languages other than my own. I don't know what it is that attracts me to this except that fact that good music is going to be good music no matter what language the words are sung in. When you can feel what the song is trying to say purely through the vibes and the passion put into it, it makes you appreciate it a whole lot more.

My Top 15 foreign language artists and groups (in no particular order):
  1. Khaled
  2. Astrud Gilberto
  3. Buena Vista Social Club (and any associated members etc)
  4. Telephone
  5. Andrea Bocceli
  6. Faudel
  7. Cheb Mami
  8. Gilberto Gil
  9. Joao Gilberto
  10. MC Solaar
  11. Rachid Taha
  12. Sergio Mendes & Brasil 66
  13. Bebel Gilberto
  14. Shakira
  15. Caetano Veloso

Top 20 Songs:

  1. Ces Soiree La - Yannick Noah (ahhhhh for the sake of all those memories :-D)
  2. Quelqu'un M'a Dit - Carla Bruni
  3. Dieu Ait Son Âme - MC Solaar
  4. Vivo Per Lei - Andrea Bocceli & Laura Pausini
  5. Tellement n'Brick - Faudel
  6. Aicha - Khaled
  7. Mais Que Nada - Sergio Mendes & Brasil 66
  8. Pais Tropical - Sergio Mendes & Brasil 66
  9. Youm Wara Youm - Cheb Mami & Samira Said
  10. Sitio Do Pica Pau Amarelo - Gilberto Gil
  11. Agua De Bebe - Astrud Gilberto & Antonio Carlos Jobim
  12. Menfi - Rachid Taha, Khaled & Faudel (from 1, 2, 3 Soleils)
  13. Superstarr- MC Solaar
  14. Abdel Kader - Khaled, Rachid Taha & Faudel (again from 1, 2, 3 Soleils)
  15. Un Peu De Ton Amour - Telephone
  16. Cendrillion - Telephone
  17. Chan Chan - Buena Vista Social Club
  18. Du Rire Aux Larmes - Sniper
  19. Chega De Saudade - Bebel & Joao Gilberto
  20. Didi - Khaled

A lot of musicians I mentioned are actually long gone and have been for a while now (Telephone was a French punk band functioning in the late 70s). I still feel, however, that the English speaking world is ready for something other than English. English is the most unexpressive language out there and let's face it, its mainstream music these days is not the most inspiring. Just think of the Pussy Cat Dolls or something similar. It would be really cool if some of these artists I have mentioned got the international recognition they deserve, and people were able to broaden their tastes to something that is hopefully a bit different.

Hey Charlotte
I remember how annoying it was when u used to download nothing but french music on my computer...haha... although i have to admit that some songs were quite cool.... Ces Soiree La... ahh it brings back the ancient memories of countless sleepovers when all of us used to dance the night away to music that no one listens to anymore....
There is a wide range of different types of good music that u appreciate... This is one of the things that make u truly unique!! :) Hats off to u for having ur own personal taste in music unlike the many ppl who just listen to watever rubbish is on the radio... bibi & good luck studying!!!!
